What Is Radon Gas And Should I Test For It Before Buying A Home?

So you’re getting an inspection on a home, and the inspector says it’s important to test for radon. You’re thinking “what the heck is that, and do I have to?” Well, it’s up to you.

Radon is a radioactive gas that is naturally released from rocks, soil, and water that is under your house, therefore any house can have a radon issue. It has no smell and is undetectable without getting the Radon test done.

Is Radon Harmful?

This harmful gas can leak into the small cracks of the foundation of your home. When it builds up, radon particles can get trapped in your lungs and increase your risk of lung cancer over time. Now, if you get a radon test done and it shows high levels, then there are many solutions.

How to get rid of radon:

The most common one is a vent pipe system and fan. It will pull radon from under the house and vent it to the outside. It is common because it does not require major changes to your home.

Is it required?

While it is a potential danger that could be in your home, the state of Georgia does not require the test to be done before purchasing.
